Jello Biafra on Ronald Reagan

Please understand that I am speaking for myself only here. Do not assume everyone else that contributes to this station shares my opinions. Also this is an Anonymous Commentary

Sorry. I’m not much into Ronald Reagan. I think he is creapy and it’s even creapier that we elected him at all.

Ronnie was a big supporter of Sadam Hussein.  He let the Contras sell crack on the streets of major US cities in order to sell arms to Iran. Iran, then and now, is an enemy of the United States. Selling weapons to the enemy is treason, is it now?

Reagan sat by and did nothing during critical times of the AIDS crisis resulting in millions of deaths. This, despite the fact that he had many gay friends from back in Hollywood. If you want to get really angry, read or see the movie And the Band Played On. It tells all about the AIDS crisis in the 80s and Reagan’s double-crossing apathy toward the gay community. Reagan’s lack of leadership or desire to spend any money on AIDS prevention early in the epidemic led to millions of wasted lives.

Deregulation of the Airline industry made it possible for the 9/11 terrorists to board. The 9/11 terrorists got passed $5-an-hour dial-a-cops rather than trained federal agents. We actually had trained federal agents BEFORE airline deregulation.

Ronald Reagan pushed hard for Airline deregulation and he even punished the Air-Traffic controllers union for going on strike by having them all fired. This led to dozens of accidents and deaths in the decades to follow as the replacements were inexperienced, poorly trained and poorly paid.

Reagan backed financial deregulation. This set the ball in motion resulting in this financial and credit crisis we are dealing with right now. So much for “Ending Unemployment” as he had promised in 1980.

Good old Ronnie filled our federal prisons with petty drug offenders despite the fact that he and Nancy were big time Hollywood party people quite familiar with cocaine and marijunna.

Plus he went senile while in office!  How the hell did we allow that? I understand patient-doctor privilege, but Ronnie’s doctor should have told the Sergeon General about the Alsheimers in the interest of National Security.

Even then the law forbid the sale of a gun to a person with a mental illness such as Alzheimer’s, yet Ronnie had his finger on the button of Nuclear oblivion!

I think Jello Biafra was on to this back in 1986 or so.  Here is a podcast of a speech he did back then called “What Reagan didn’t Know”.

Despite all of this, conservatives give him credit for the fall of the Soviet Union just because he gave a nice speech.  Reagan did nothing to cause the fall of the Soviet Union.  It was Gorbachev’s policies of Glastnost and Perestroika which ended the soviet government stronghold on the press.  A free press leads to a free society.  This is not Ronald Reagan’s personal accomplishment.
