Damn right! What we have here is an underground movement that never got the press, fame or respect it really should have gotten.
Dateline 2004, Minneapolis/St Paul. A whole bunch of unsigned bands were playing strange combinations of rock, punk funk and electronica.
How did this convergence happen and why here? The first ElectroPunk compilation came out that year. It was an experiment. If you band was unsigned, featured a hardware or virtual keyboard and/or sampler and could perform at least part-way live, then you could get on the compilation.
Fast forward to 2011 and the sixth volume in the compilation series was released. Almost all the bands are still unsigned. Many have broken up since 2004, and still new ones popped up along the way.
This podcast explores this collection of music, focusing on bands that had more of a punk element to them and by artists that grew up in Minnesota.
