That Time David Bowie Put MTV On Blast

David Bowie passed away last week and TYT is honoring him by telling a little known story about the rock superstar. In the early days of MTV the music video channel refused to play videos from black artists. Bowie put a stop to it. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian hosts of The Young Turks discuss.

mong the tributes being shared online to David Bowie, many are praising the late glam rock singer for challenging MTV for refusing to play music by black people in 1982. An excerpt of the interview has been shared by thousands on Twitter. In the middle of an on air interview, he suddenly asked:

“Why are there practically no Black artists on the network?”
